Richard "Dick" Cocklin was an avid collector of history of the Middlebranch area. The Cocklin family had a boarding house (which is still standing today), the Cocklin Garage, and the Middlebranch General Store. He was a member of the Plain Township Historical Society and had lots of information from the early days of Plain township. Dick also belonged to the VMCCA as well as many other car clubs. He had a passion for restoring old cars to their original condition. He restored the 1904 St. Louis Motorcar for the Timken Company in 1999 and toured Europe with it. He also restored 1914 and 1915 Babygrand Chevys and a 1932 Oldsmobile. He collected old tools and had a tool for every job.
